roanTone pedals are the creation of Jack Roan, designer and builder of Noble custom tube amplifiers. Because these pedals are uniquely crafted by hand, no two will look exactly alike.

In addition to building original design pedals, roanTone also specializes in custom pedal “enhancement”. There are many good pedals out there, and we love taking the extra steps to make them great.

Finally a boost pedal that won’t change your tone! The Orange Bang has a completely flat frequency response and is hand built with entirely discrete components (no opamps or ICs) for audiophile quality amplification. This pedal is a tribute to our favorite San Diego beverage. It’s whipped!

The footswitch selects between high and low boost levels. The single chicken head knob on the face of the pedal sets the high boost level, with up to 18dB of gain on tap. The pedal ships stock with the low boost level set to 0dB, but it can be adjusted up to 6dB with a small trim pot on the underside of the pedal.

Unlike most of the pedals on your board, the Dual Boost is NOT true bypass. What?! That’s right, this pedal is designed with an all-discrete output stage to easily drive the longest cables you can find, and an ultra high input impedance to buffer your guitar’s delicate signal from loading and “tone suck” from other pedals. Typically you want the first and last pedals in your chain to not be true bypass, to provide buffering between your guitar and your pedals, and between your pedals and your amp. Without a good buffer the capacitance of your cables and connectors will cause the high end to roll off, reducing the shimmer and attack of your guitar signal.

The Orange Bang is excellent as the first pedal in your chain, buffering your guitar or use it to match the volumes of different guitars. It also excels as the last pedal on your board, for times when you want the same tone only louder, or to push your amp into natural overdrive. Or perhaps you have a combo amp in the next room and need a local volume control - the Orange Bang is it. The adjustable low boost level allows you to make up for losses elsewhere in your chain, or just bump up the signal level to hit your amp a little harder all the time.

We designed this pedal for electric guitar, but it works great for other instruments as well due to the neutral frequency response. Super cool for a lead boost on an acoustic guitar pedalboard, or stringed instruments like electrified violin when you need to jump up in the mix for lead lines.

Have you ever tuned your wah pedal to get a cool filtered tone and then wished you could just leave it there and turn it on and off without moving the foot rocker? That’s what the Sweat Box is for! Like a wah pedal but without the foot rocker, plus some other cool tricks thrown in.

The Tone knob sets the center frequency of the filter, and the Boost knob adjusts the “Q” - varying between a high boost with a narrow bandwidth and a low boost across a wider bandwidth. The ultra bright purple led is visible even in full sun. And yes, it’s true bypass.

The narrow filter action is great for cutting through a live mix, for solos, and spot-on resonant feedback. Especially cool before distortion, or with delay.

Each cast aluminum enclosure is individually distressed for a one of a kind look, and the CNC engraved lettering will never wear off.

We found the Seymour Duncan® Shape Shifter on our search for the perfect trem. Rather than trying to model the tremolo effect digitally, the Shape Shifter uses analog audio circuitry controlled by a digital brain. Your signal is never digitized keeping it sounding lush, dimensional, and straight up 100% analog. At the same time, they’ve managed to include amazing flexibility and features by utilizing a digital control system, truly the best of both worlds.

Of all the tap trems we tried, this one worked the way we wanted to. The triplet tap ratio is one of the features that set this pedal apart, along with the continuously variable LFO wave shape.

Unfortunately the design engineers at Seymour Duncan® chose to turn off the digital brain when the effect is bypassed, which means that you can only set the tap tempo when the tremolo effect is on. We found this to be a major frustration and the one issue that we just had to correct (see Details below to try it yourself).

After our enhancement the brain remains on regardless of the effect state, allowing your taps to change the effect tempo at any time. The red tempo light will now flash constantly, whether the effect is on or off, so we also replace the yellow LED with an on/off indicator.

Beyond our basic enhancement, we have a few additional options to further tailor this pedal to your rig. The picture above has the additional tap jack, upgraded switch, and boost knob options; see below for all the options we offer for customizing this pedal. Enhancement Details

We make changes to a few areas inside the pedal:

1. 1.Enable the digital brain to remain on all the time, allowing the tempo to be tapped even when the effect is bypassed.
   

2. 2.Replace the yellow LED with an on/off indicator.
   

3. 3.Additional custom options as requested (add jacks, change switch, volume boost, etc).
   

If you have access to basic hand tools you can perform part #1 yourself, here’s how:

Open the Shape Shifter and remove the black bottom piece. Near the 9V battery clip you will see "S1C" on the board. Cut or remove one or both of the wires running from S1C to the blue 3PDT foot switch. The trem processor will now stay on all the time, and it will receive your tap inputs even when the pedal is in audio bypass. However, there is now no LED indication of effect on/off (thus part #2).

This is part #1 of what we do. Part #2 is much more involved and is the reason we charge for the service. It’s worth it if you’re looking for a professional tap tremolo pedal at a reasonable cost.
